“The Day of
the Minstrel and the Reading of Homer’s Iliad” will
take place on August 5&6, 2005
This year’s
“Minstrel” is poet Kemal Ozer
As in the
previous three years, the fourth of our Iliad
Readings, will take place on the first
Friday-Saturday in August.
This year,
Mr. Kemal Ozer will read some of his poems on the
evening of August 5, 2005. In the previous two years
during which Mr. Cevat Capan and Mr. Ilhan Berk had
been the Minstrels, we had enjoyed their poems, as
well as their opening and closing narrations of the
Iliad.
As the sun
dawns over Troy on August 6th, 2005, the
participants will gather on the beach facing Troy,
and will continue the reading of this saga from
where we left last year. This year, as in the
previous years, the Turkish translation of Azra
Erhat-A.Kadir will be the text used. Having said
that, participants can read their part in any
language they want. Last year’s part was read in
seven different languages.
This
literary tradition will close with the evening
reading on August 6.
The “Day of
the Minstrel” is expected to attract a variety of
participants from different countries, mainly from
Greece.
Talay
Wineries will commemorate the day by dedicating a
special vintage to this event.
Same as in
previous years, this year’s minstrel will be our
guest in the “Minstrel’s Suite” at the Kaikias
Hotel.
The only
prerequisite to participate is to bring a copy of
the Iliad in any language.
