Dear Guests
Welcome to Bozcaada. On an area of 36 square
kilometers, our island is a small district with
a permanent population of 2500.
The distance between the farthest two points is
7 km, and the circumference is about 14 miles.
Vehicles on the island are capable to meet all
your transportation needs.
During the crowded and hectic summer months, to
have a good time on the island, to enjoy your
holiday without frustration, and to avoid
traffic problems on our narrow streets and
alleys, please take a moment to read our
suggestions below:
·
Unless absolutely necessary, we recommend that you leave
your car in the car park at the Geyikli ferry
terminal on the mainland.
·
Parking charges will apply for any vehicle that arrives
on the island.
·
To maintain traffic order on the island, please park your
car in one of the following locations: Behind
the fort; in the fort dike; in the elementary
school playgrounds.
·
Island streets are very narrow and during the summer
months can only accommodate pedestrian traffic.
Cars parked in front of buildings, or blocking
traffic – especially emergency and/or garbage
collection traffic - will be ticketed.
·
Unless absolutely necessary, please refrain from driving
your vehicle inside the town centre.
·
To avoid car pile ups, and as a result the eyesore of
endless parked cars right next to pristine
beaches, please use the frequent and cheap
transportation provided to these areas.
·
We ask for your cooperation, especially in the area of
keeping our island clean.
·
Garbage cans and bags are provided at all beaches,
forests, and picnic areas. Please use them. In
the intense summer heat glass bottles become a
fire hazard, especially in the woods. Please
properly dispose of them.
·
Lighting fires in wooded areas is strictly prohibited.
·
Please do not toss out burning cigarettes from cars.
·
Our island is considered a protected habitat with
archeological characteristics. Damaging the
flora and historical sites carries stiff
penalties.
·
All vineyards are private property and no trespassing is
allowed.
·
Scuba diving is subject to permit, which can be obtained
from the Harbor Master’s Office.
·
All fast boats, and sea-scooters are prohibited near the
beaches.
·
Please avoid noise pollution during your stay and your
visits.
·
Please have your dog under control at all times. Unruly
dogs are subject to fines.
·
Water is scarce on the island. Please use it sparingly.
We, the municipality, the police, the health
centre, and the gendarmerie, are here to assist
you in any way we can, and ask for your
cooperation to keep our island clean and
pristine.
We hope that you will enjoy your stay and have a
wonderful time.
Thank you
Bozcaada Municipality
